Visa Options for Skilled Migration Applicants

There is a number of visa options under the General Skilled Migration program for qualified people who want to live in
Australia and who do not have an employer sponsoring them. These include options for skilled people applying as an
independent migrant (with the least number of restrictions) as well as those sponsored (either by a relative, or nominated
by a State or Territory government). After considering
the points test, one may be eligible for a number of different visa
categories and each may have different requirements, restrictions and obligations.

The visa subclass is to be chosen depending on whether you:

are in Australia or Offshore

are a Transitional Applicant

are a New Zealand Citizen

are a Holder of a Skilled – Independent Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 495)

are a Holder of a Skilled – Designated Area Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 496)
