The table below shows the number of invitations issued in the SkillSelect invitation round on 14 September 2016.

The reports on September (only one round on 14 September) of SkillSelect Invitation round has been released.

Below is our analysis of the required points score and waiting times for EOI invitations.

Skilled Independent Subclass 189 and Skilled – Regional Provisional (Subclass 489 – Family sponsored)

Invitation rounds will be held twice a month. The maximum numbers of invitations to be issued on 14 September 2016 invitation rounds are as follows.

Comparing invitation issued in 2015-2016 against 2016-2017

As you can see the number of invitations issued in September for subclass 189 is far better than 2015-2016. For Subclass 489 – Family sponsored, there a drastically increase in the number of invitations in the new program year.

The above figures do not include invitations issued for State and Territory Government nominated visa subclasses. State and Territory Governments nominate throughout the month for specific points tested skilled migration and business innovation and investment visas. Separate results for these visa subclasses are provided monthly.

The following graph shows the points for clients who were invited to apply in the 14 September 2016 round.

Invitation process and cut offs on 14th September

The highest ranked clients by points score are invited to apply for the relevant visa. For clients who have equal points scores, the time at which they reached their points score for that subclass (referred to as the visa date of effect) determines their order of invitation. Expressions of Interest with earlier dates of effect are invited before later dates.

For example, in the above graph, applicants who have submitted their EOI on 29 June 2016 or earlier are being invited for subclass 489 (family sponsored) with 60 points. Also applicants with 60 points who have submitted their EOI on 30th August 2016 or earlier are being invited on this round

Pro-rata occupations

Due to high levels of demand, and in keeping with previous years, the below occupation groups will be subject to pro rata arrangements to ensure availability of invitations across the programme year. SkillSelect first allocates available places to Skilled – Independent visas (subclass 189) and then remaining to Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visas (subclass 489). If all places are taken up by subclass 189 visas then there will be no invitations issued for subclass 489 visas in these occupations.

  • ICT Business and System Analysts
  • Software and Applications Programmers
  • Other Engineering Professionals
  • Computer Network Professionals

The Bad news is for Network Engineers and Engineer Technologists. The minimum score for these occupations was 65 and no applicant was invited with 60 point this invitation round

Conclusion

Most occupations were invited with 60 points in this invitation round and the waiting time to be invited for most occupations is one month.

The minimum score to be invited for Accountants, Auditors, Company Secretary and Treasurers is 70 points.

Subclass 489 – Family sponsored are being invited with 60 points and applications who were lodged on 29 June were invited in this invitation round.

The Bad news is for Network Engineers and Engineer Technologists. The minimum score for these occupations increased to 65 from 60.
